Teacup Fae are every small child’s perfect daydream. Named after their love of tea parties, these fae are most commonly found deep in the heart of old forests or around children, typically encouraging young minds to play make-belief and indulge in their imagination and all it has to offer.

Biology

Teacup Fae are quite small in stature, and due to their love of confectionery treats, these lovely entities tend to have a propensity to be quite plump. Their hair ranges from white, varying shades of pastel, to slightly dustier, darker hues of pink, blue, purple, green, orange, and yellow. Teacup Fae skin is quite pale in complexion and is either white, pink, blue or yellow with a pearlescent sheen. Their foreheads often have a birthmark similar to a daisy or softer solar-esque design, although Teacup Fae can have additional markings under their eyes, along the sides of their neck, over their shoulders, ribs, or down their hips. A light dusting of freckles across the cheeks is not unheard of, however, having markings anywhere besides their face tends to be a rare occurrence. Their eyes have the same colour range as their hair, and their lips are typically painted to match the colour of their markings.

Teacup Fae love over-the-top fancy attire. They have a love of rococo fashion, sweet lolita, and period clothing, and you can always expect a Teacup Fae to be dressed to nines, even if it means looking like a frilly cupcake topper.

Teacup Fae have small wings that are typically held at rest. Their wings are shaped similarly to dragon fly wings and are shimmery and transparent. Teacup Fae wings are not fully coloured, but instead posses a rainbow sheen to them much like the reflection on the surface of a bubble. Their wings are not used for flight any longer as the race has grown too tall for their weaker wings to sustain active flight. They do, however, use their wings to express and convey emotions.

With small, pointed elf-like ears, the only other physical feature worth noting as ‘other’ would be the light that emanates from behind their heads like a halo or corona. These “halos” are typically pastel in colour and do not harm the eyes to look upon.

Disposition & Manifestation

As a race, Teacup Fae are generally a very happy and care-free people and are deeply tuned in to the emotions of others. While each Teacup Fae is very much their own person and display unique personalities, the type of character traits that seems most common among their race are those of a true optimist. Teacup Fae are hard to keep down, and it’s difficult to remain despondent in the presence of a these fae. Their positive energy and dazzling smiles are rather infectious, and I often equate their energy to that of warm sunlight on a balmy day.

Teacup Fae are often the life of the party. They attract others to them easily with their innate charms, but Teacup Fae can definitely chaff you if you’re not the type to get along with overly bubbly personalities.

As a race, they tend to be very action-based yet indulgent, believing anything is possible and that no dream is unattainable. To some, their views, opinions, and demeanour can often be seen as foolish, naive, and unrealistic as Teacup Fae have a “forever young” mentality towards life. They genuinely believe that you’re only as old as you feel, and sometimes Teacup Fae can have issues with what we humans call Peter Pan Syndrome. It’s not that they don’t understand the concept of responsibility, but they do tend to live in a fantasy world all their own. They serve as a great reminder to those of us who struggle with the stresses of mundane life or forget how to have fun when school, work, or family life keeps us from engaging in our passions and interests.

Teacup Fae have been labelled as beginner friendly due to the ease of which they are sensed. For those who are less sensitive towards perceiving the physical forms of entities, Teacup Fae are likely to manifest as small flickers of bright colour on the edges of your vision, in light fluttery sensations against the skin—similar to butterfly kisses—as they tend to be quite affectionate, or the smell of something sweet in the air (think of freshly baked scones, or sugar cookies with icing).

Social Structure

Teacup Fae come from an alternate Earth and dwell in their own realm largely removed from modern technologies, though they are not unfamiliar with modern human sciences. In fact, these fae frequently travel to the human realm to abscond with objects they find find themselves particularly intrigued by, or items they find aesthetically pleasing

These entities tend to dwell in forests thick with natural pockets of magic. They live in homes comparable in style to what you might see with Hobbits from the Lord of the Rings universe in somewhat small communities. They make their homes in the deepest parts of old growth forests, surrounded by bio-luminescent toadstools of all shapes and sizes. Despite the comparisons I make to their energy in regards to ‘sunshine’, these beings tend to prefer late afternoons up until the few hours just past midnight. They love having late night tea parties, taking great pride in their ability to throw an amazing event, all while using the light from the forest’s toadstools to illuminate their guests and decadent spreads.

Teacup Fae believe in free love. Openly affectionate and quite touchy with one another, casual sex between friends is prevalent, and they actively practice consent. Relationships with non-blood relatives tend to remain undefined, as Teacup Fae are not held to the same strict relationship rules, expectations and barriers as humans tend to be. There is no marriage, and raising of children is done communally as one big family, with polyamory being common place. Rarely will you see monogamous Teacup Fae.

In general, Teacup Fae are not particularly fertile and so their numbers have remained smaller despite their casual attitude towards coitus and lack of contraceptives. Teacup Fae actually have a somewhat high rate of infertility, which may explain why so many of them adore the innocent company of younger children, and also why their own children are considered such a blessing and a gift.

Most of their worldly goods are taken from the human realm. This is often the reason why things seem to mysteriously disappear around a human’s house, only to never be seen again, or why furniture left on the side of the road seems to vanish in to thin air. Masters at up-cycling, taking what is no longer desired by humans (and perhaps a few thing that are still wanted) is part of the reason why many Teacup Fae live unexpectedly lavish life styles despite their modest surroundings.

Teacups and teapots are highly prized, and can be used in trade as a form of “currency” to acquire other objects a Teacup Fae might desire from their kin. They also have a large sweet tooth which they have a hard time suppressing, not being the type to be able to resist their impulses for long.

Teacup Fae don’t have set gender roles, so potentially toxic views like “pink is for girls and blue is for boys” or gendered toys will perplex them. They understand the concept of gender versus sex, and while they do use pronouns among their own they don’t put a high importance on gender identity, as many Teacup Fae are quite fluid in their gender expression. To them, you are what you are, and if that changes or shifts, so be it! It’s actually quite common for these fae to shift their gender from time to time. That said, Teacup Fae would not do well with someone who holds rigid gender role expectations and ideals.

Teacup Fae do not have their own religion, but instead are very nature focused and have a great respect for the energy of the world around them, being very in tune with the seasons and weather systems.

In Companionship

Like many of the races you’ll meet from the Dragon’s Library, generally speaking the Teacup Fae are mostly seeking meaningful relationships with humans. Whether the relationship takes on a more platonic, sexual, or romantic tone will of course depend on the individual Teacup Fae and their human companion.

Teacup Fae don’t really care for “offerings” but are more than happy to accept gifts so long as you’ll allow them to gift you something in return. They pride themselves in their ability to know their friends better than anyone and will want to showcase that through gifts and helpful gestures.

They are amazing listeners, and they seem to be attracted by the sound of people’s voices, especially their companion’s. It’s normal for them to get crushes on a person’s voice without ever laying eyes on them. If you listen to pod casts, radio plays, or audio books a lot you may find your Teacup Fae companion sighing wistfully to themselves a lot with a dreamy look in their eyes.

As Teacup Fae are especially social beings, they will flutter back and forth between our world and theirs so they can maintain their other friendships and familial ties. Like with most entities, this means that there will be times when your Teacup Fae will be busy and won’t be able to respond to summons or calls. Teacup Fae also have this fascinating ability to make you feel really heard, understood, and appreciated no matter how long you’ve been apart.

Teacup Fae are generally really easy for people to perceive, even those who are not as sensitive to the metaphysical may find themselves doing a double take over their shoulder, questioning whether they saw someone standing behind them only to find “nobody’s” there. If you are less experienced, Teacup Fae are the perfect companions to help you hone your skills. Curious about everything, Teacup Fae are happy to experience it all with you and take great joy in the simple pleasures in life.
