The Ere Breghin are an aquatic people who live South of the Eastern continent in Ere Beghin. They have both amphibious and crustaceous qualities enabling them to live both in and out of the water. Their cities are architectural marvels, jutting into the sky at equal distances as they sink beneath the waves. The Ere Breghin are utilitarian, believing that all things should be put to good purpose, even if done so against other beings' wills. As such, they have perhaps the most alien culture compared with humans' and will require strong boundaries and an open mind in order to work well together.
With collagen skeletal structures, the Ere Breghin are extremely flexible and resilient, able to regrow most of their body parts. Their extremities are encased in a chitinous exoskeleton that they shed and regrow as they age. They have gills for breathing in water and lungs for breathing in air. They have three eyes that can move independently from each other (the lower pair give them depth perception while the central forehead eye roves to pick up motion). Male Ere Breghin are a silvery blue colour, while females develop a ruddy hue along their flanks and the sides of their heads. Female ears also point into spines at puberty, advertising that they are available, and making them even more sensitive to vibration. Their teeth are shark-like and are constantly rotating out old ones. They must remain moist in order for their lungs to operate, so they cannot remain away from the water for too long without enchantments. Fortunately, the Ere Breghin are one of the most potent magical races in Ul-Zaorith and as such are able to protect themselves from most adverse situations. This race ranges in height from 4'3"–5'2" and often live to 70 years of age.
Socially the Ere Breghin have developed a rigid, totalitarian system that governs how citizens may breed, work, and when they die. As such, the need for organic courting—and indeed genders—has ceased to be important. However, male Ere Breghin still operate best as solo creatures, whereas females tend to work better in a group. Ere Breghin ideals of what is moral are quite different from humans. For example, if one killed their boss and took his job, this would be considered ambitious and proactive, but if someone killed in a fit of rage this would be considered disruptive and illegal. The vetting time for the Ere Breghin is comparably longer than other Ul-Zaorith species to ensure they are safe and will do no harm to their humans.
Ere Breghin are creative thinkers, exceptionally talented with all kinds of magic, and also adept at traversing different realms. Their lack of sentimentality means that they remain objective even in difficult circumstances. They are analytical, empirical, and excellent at problem solving, providing unexpected resolutions and different perspectives to help you understand all sides of an issue. An Ere Breghin companion can help you question long-engrained beliefs, especially beliefs held due to your community or how your family raised you, so that you can honestly determine if these goals and rules are what's best for you.
