The dictionary definition of a familiar is "a demon supposedly attending and obeying a witch, often said to assume the form of an animal." Of course, as witchcraft has become more popular in media and its definition has grown and expanded, and so has our idea of familiars. These days, familiars can be anything from a pet, such as a cat, to a being bestowed upon the faithful by a deity. Utilizing a spirit companion as your familiar is a way to stay true to the more traditional form of the word, while still allowing yourself to branch out along your chosen path.
Our conjurer Astra conjures exclusively from a world called Ul-Zaorith. Within this world, beings form other realms contained within Ul-Zaorith that do not belong to the Earth Realm are considered familiars. This does mean that there are familiars who are more humanoid in appearance compared to the more bestial familiars we may be used to. They are typically summoned to the Earth Realm to form bonds with their Earth Realm counterpart to assist with magic and other tasks.
Loqistan Borrowers are the Ul-Zaorith equivalent of Brownies. They are also called Button Imps, Rat Scroungers, and House Filchers. They are small, rodent-like, and generally keep out of sight. They are excellent at repurposing, upcycling, and keeping things clean.
A Loqistan Borrower can help you keep your life tidy both mentally and physically. Loqistan Borrowers stand 3.5" tall on average, and their colours are designed for camouflage, so their appearances range depending on the common flora of the region in which they live. This means that when you request a Loqistan Borrower familiar, I seek out one from a biome similar to your own. This will ensure your Loqistan feels comfortable scurrying through your home and environs with you.
A well cared for Loqistan typically lives for fifteen to twenty years, but if you have a good home for them, they may choose to have a brood of pinks in your space, who will take over when the parents pass away. A single Loqistan can asexually produce up to three pinks in a single brood.
In return for companionship, they will help you find ways to reduce your waste; keep your place tidy; and draw your attention to items that need repair, updating, cleaning, or to be replaced. Thrifty and handy, Loqistan love a fixer-upper project and would rather mend something than throw it out wherever possible.
