The dictionary definition of a familiar is "a demon supposedly attending and obeying a witch, often said to assume the form of an animal." Of course, as witchcraft has become more popular in media and its definition has grown and expanded, and so has our idea of familiars. These days, familiars can be anything from a pet, such as a cat, to a being bestowed upon the faithful by a deity. Utilizing a spirit companion as your familiar is a way to stay true to the more traditional form of the word, while still allowing yourself to branch out in variety.
Our conjurer Ember defines a familiar as astral beings such as fairies or unique creatures that call the astral home, born from its energy, or long deceased animal spirits who can be summoned to offer their aid. While each species of familiar will have their own unique skills and range in its intelligence and ability to communicate with words, one thing they all share in common is their desire to assist witches along their path.
Cinnamon Fairies are very similar to brownies in a lot of ways, and tend to be very excited about human domiciles. Cinnamon Fairies love to help with cooking and harvest magics, as well as adore just about anything that has to do with fall. When they make matches with human companions, they tend to live in junk drawers or trinket boxes or in cupboards and feed off the energy of food waste if their companion allows them to live with them full time. Otherwise, they always have a connection back to their home realm and can easily travel to you when called.
Cinnamon Fairies are very sweet-natured and are not prone to acts of mischief like some fairies/fae/sprites are. They are hyper curious about our technology and love to figure out how things work. Many love to craft and sew with their companions, or at least like to sit close by while their companion participates in their chosen activity.
