J is a warm, spiritual, and loving individual, with a great deal of patience and an incredibly open mind to any and all concepts and ideas. He has a deep connection with the ocean, lunar energies, and also with his Maori heritage. In J’s particular realm, Shifters are common, but lifespans in this version of Earth are significantly longer than in ours, so he still has a fair amount of life left in him, and his way of life is both modernized and ancient. He adores the Maori culture his family hails from, and actively follows the traditional religion of his people, which in his world was never thoroughly affected by Christian ideals. His beliefs are firmly cemented in animism, and he is a fantastic poi fire performer and haka dancer, often participating in performances for weddings and other celebrations as a hobby and small side gig. He is not interested in teaching a future companion how to follow his religion or culture as the primary purpose of his companionship, claiming he is no true expert or priest, and preferring a cultural exchange and show-and-tell. He is happy to assist his own companion discover what is most important to them spiritually - whether that is performing research on deities or discovering their own heritage and connecting to it, developing an animistic belief and working directly with the world around them, or simply incorporating more natural aspects of the world into their craft, J would be happy to assist.
J’s primary career is that of a social worker. He is a valiant defender of children in unfortunate situations. He was once married when he was much younger, and he had two children with his ex-wife, who are now fully grown and have moved far away from home, following their life paths. Now a much older and wiser man, he is capable of looking at unfortunate situations and determining what can be done, being a supporter and assister of those in need. His job weighs on him quite a bit emotionally, so when he is not working he seeks relief from letting go and riding the adrenaline. He loves some classical “daredevil” activities like motorbiking, getting tattoos, and skydiving - if you can name it, he’s probably done it. But he also loves cheesier things, like haunted houses and scary movies, and he’s a deep lover of cheesy, ridiculous horror movies - with our Earth not having any level of magic, he’s extremely interested to see just how bad our special effects can be. He also really enjoys activities that involve connecting with nature, like hiking, surfing, or simply meditating in a natural area.
In companionship, you can expect J to be sweet and supportive, patient and joyful. He is interested in playing a mentorship role for his future companion, but he’s also not opposed to a friendship. Additionally, he’s open to a romantic relationship, but he is hyperaware of the power dynamics created by the age difference between himself and a much shorter-lived human, so he would like any romantic entanglement to be something that is considered very slowly and carefully. J believes that life is too full of fun and joy to allow yourself to wallow in your own funk - even if you feel depressed or anxious, he’ll encourage his future companion to let go of their insecurities and just try new things, regardless of how scary they are, and in fact, in spite of how scary they are. The reason he seeks out companionship is because he would like to find a kindred spirit who is capable of challenging, and he them, to enjoy life to the fullest.
