"I sometimes like to view time as concentric spirals - if you are walking on it, it looks like a line. If you look outward from it, you can see where it intersects, you can see what is behind you and what is ahead of it. And if, like me, you are detached from it entirely, you can see it all in its breadth, like the curl of an ammonite shell. Additionally, I just like seashells. My favorite thing about summer - or, really, every season? Seashells."
K is somewhat of a beach bum. Whenever she has the opportunity, she skips her endless studies in all periods of time in order to crawl out of the ocean and rake the shore for seashells. She collects them and keeps them in a small cavern that is her personal space throughout all times, and she’s quite talented at stringing them like beads to create beautiful jewelry that she drapes over herself. “I don’t have a favorite,” she muses, rearranging her stash by color. “I just think they’re lovely. Wouldn’t it be lovely, to have a little home on your back?” In general, K loves anything beautiful and natural - she also likes flowers and has loved to view gardens during her vetting. “We don’t have anything like this in our world,” she said softly one day, as flower petals fell around us in a particularly strong gust of wind. Although she is a few hundred years old, K has an appreciation for aesthetic beauty and the discovery of new things that seems to come with a particular love for life. She is sweet and excitable, but has an artist’s heart. If given the chance, she prefers to slow down and savor every moment she is in, becoming still as if she is capturing it in her head like a photograph.
In companionship, K’s ability to see more of another world through our human eyes has not escaped her. She wants more out of life than stuffy old dragons, from the past or the future, telling her what’s what. She has never had a desire to meet her future self, or future offspring, if there are any. Although she enjoys being outside of time, having a perspective on everything as she pleases, she envies having a linear lifestyle and being able to see every single moment as precious, of not knowing what happens next. She would love to help her future companion feel that way, too - instead of always looking forward or looking back, she would love to assist you feel as though you are rooted in this moment, that each moment of every day is the most precious one, to never let go of. “Even the bad times are worth holding onto,” she says. “Everything changes - and you may one day find that nostalgia is for the things you wanted so badly to get out of, at some point. But we can’t live there anymore - so let’s just think about the now, and enjoy what we have while we have it.”ct companion for you - both of you will open up worlds as wide as the ocean for each other.
