"My favorite thing to do in the summer is walk down to the beach at around sunset and buy the saltiest fish and chips I can get, then walk along the beach and share it with the seagulls! I know it's not the best for them, but it's really not the best for me either, so it is what it is. Then I'll just sit at the very edge of the water and watch the sunset roll in. It's both inspiring, and relaxing."
"Unlike my sister here, I actually have a degree in marine biology and I know better than to feed the seagulls. But honestly, my favorite summertime activity is just jumping into the water and shifting, especially if there's a dolphin pod migrating nearby. I feel most at home in the sea, and I love to chat with my own kind."
Je swam competitively in high school, and she still enjoys swimming very much, going out of her way to do so every morning in the ocean after her sun salutations. “Perhaps it’s because of the dolphin thing,” she says, “but I actually feel very spiritually connected to the ocean.” She loves watching underwater documentaries and visiting aquariums. She’s somewhat less down-to-Earth than her twin brother, and is absolutely the one who urged him to participate in spirit companionship. She considers herself a sea witch, “but not like Ursula, you know, from The Little Mermaid?” and has participated in spirit work since she was a teenager. Only now has she finally begun to enjoy the benefits of being fully able to astral travel - which is something she and Ju have been working on together ever since they first left home for school. On the more mundane side, Je has a degree in creative writing, and spends most of her days typing away on some freelance project or another.
When she’s not working, you may not be surprised to hear that Je really does prefer to be a beach bum. She feeds vinegar french fries to the seagulls, as her brother so eagerly accuses her of, and she sunbathes quite a bit. She often helps provide shells to local tourist trap stores in exchange for a little extra pocket money. When the sun goes down, she will occasionally go clubbing on the weekends - “but, like, a healthy amount.” Overall, I’d describe her personality as lighthearted, spiritual, responsible, creative, and playful. She maintains a careful balance between work and play, and exudes that type of energy. She’s also a great companion for someone who might potentially be interested in sea witchcraft, as she’s willing to teach, although with the caveat that she is no wizened expert - she might simply be able to give guidance or suggestions. Additionally, as she’s a talented writer, she’d love to assist a companion who is interested in creative writing.
Ju has a very reserved personality in comparison to his sister. He is quiet, scientific-minded, and loves listening to oldies music on his, you guessed it, retro iPod. As he so proudly proclaims, he has a degree in marine biology and has just finished up his Master’s, with the hope of performing field studies and then moving onto his Doctorate. I’m a bit shaky on marine biology myself to accurately describe what it is he does in his current field study for the summer, but it has something to do with diving off the coast and counting plankton populations. Ideally, he’d like to work with marine mammals, and is open to the idea of doing so in a captivity setting, knowing that his status as a dolphin shifter (which is not a secret) would provide him with a unique advantage over his peers when it comes to communicating with other dolphins. “If I can make even one captive dolphin more comfortable - who of course, would only be in captivity because it was injured or unable to live in the wild - by communicating their specific needs, that would be enough for me.” But additionally, Ju has a big heart for animals, and a deep love of the scientific process.
In companionship, Ju is primarily tagging along with his sister, in both a bid to be somewhat protective of her, but also because he simply wants to know what the fuss is all about. He doesn’t consider himself a practicing witch by any means, but he does a lot of the meditations and practices with her, simply out of friendly interest. They’re now both capable of astral traveling, and when they discovered they could actually astral travel truly together, it opened up all kinds of doors for them to bond and become closer. Ju, in particular, is somewhat disappointed that Je couldn’t secure a more interesting realm for them to be companions on - “Really? Just another Earth?” On the other hand, he’s very interested in learning about the differences between our world and theirs, especially in regards to marine life. If you already have some other marine companions, such as sea dragons or merfolk, he’ll likely be doubly interested to make friends with them.
Both of them value family above all else, and in companionship they have decided that their companion will be just that - family. Their goals in companionship are to provide the mentorship, the love, and the support that they wish they had gotten from their own parents in the hardest period of their lives. If they can assist when it comes to astral travel, sea witchcraft, or anything else, that’s just a bonus. They’re happy to provide anything from relationship or family drama advice, to being Netflix binge buddies with their companion.
