Flower Dragons are a familiar race of dragons who are excited to work with humans for magical means, and love cuddling, companionship, and gardening.  They're small, between 1-2 feet in length, and they have petals or soft, plantlike skin rather than scales.  They live on the Earthly plane adjacent to our own, meaning that they experience our own world very similarly to the way we do, they are simply one dimension removed.  They tend to take after specific flowers, their petals and appearance mimicking that of the plant they’re most like, although those plants may not always be native to Earth!  Their lifespan is around 150 years, and they are surprisingly hardy, rather than delicate.

Flower dragons are very sweet, curious, and playful, and they love becoming close friends with their human companions.  They do best with companions who love gardening and green witchcraft, or who at the very least like to visit gardens.  If you’ve always wanted a little help getting a flowerbed started, or wanted to grow your own herbs at home, a Flower Dragon companion may be the perfect help for that.  They're not fully verbal, and are somewhat animalistic, but they're still fully intelligent and are very engaged in the idea of both a friendly companionship and a magical partnership.

Biology

Flower Dragons appear to be dragons that are designed to mimic various plants on Earth.  Their plant growths manifest in ways that give them a very diverse appearance across the board.  They all tend to be quadripedal, but their bodies can have varying other features - their tails can be long or nubby, their ears can be pointed or floppy, and they may or may not have wings and horns.  Their plant growths can appear as flower petals in place of scales, but sometimes they can take the appearance of flower petal skirts or neck ruffles, and occasionally their skin will be the soft texture of a flower petal without any distinction between petals at all.  Additionally, not all Flower Dragons necessarily take after flowers - they can also take the appearance of viny plants or succulents.  However, Flower Dragons that mimic trees. fruits, and aquatic plants tend to be more rare.  One thing can be certain: no two Flower Dragons are exactly alike!

Flower Dragons are born from the living essence of plants, and tend to originate in places that are naturally abundant with plantlife or particularly well-loved gardens.  They do not reproduce sexually, and show  no interest in sexual or romantic relationships.  They are naturally curious and exploratory creatures, and they tend to wander off from their birth homes in search of new knowledge and excitement.  They do not need to eat, producing most of their energy from water and sunlight as if they were a plant, but they often enjoy consuming the basic essence of food in order to experience the flavors.  Flower dragons can be very social beings, and love to reside in groups.  It can be common for them to bond with each other, and in nature they will form little cliques of 2-3 dragons.   They are also capable of forming a strong imprinting bond very easily with other species, and will remain with that being until the end of one of their respective lives.  This also applies to human companionship.

Flower Dragons have a natural affinity for earth and plant magics, and thrive in places that are abundant with plantlife.  Even if they do not have direct access to a garden or flowerbed, they adore taking visits to greenhouses and botanical gardens, or even farms.  They often nestle among the stalks of plants and take naps there, providing a natural exchange of energy with those plants that can help them feel grounded and vibrant, and also help the plants to grow.  Flower Dragons are very hardy, capable of surviving and even thriving in very cold or very hot temperatures, but they do best in moderate temperatures and often enjoy a lifestyle spent mostly indoors.  They tend to be very nosy, sticking their faces in everything and anything that is open and available to them - but thankfully, there is little danger to them doing so except for dangerous and larger spirits.  Despite the fact that they are hardy, they tend to be rather defenseless, with only small, sharp teeth and claws.  They have a naturally gentle personality, and often do not feel the need to defend themselves unless they are in immediate danger.

Disposition & Manifestation

Flower Dragons are curious and mischievous, interested in learning and befriending everyone and everything.  They especially love to frolick and play in natural spaces, such as batting leaves and chasing butterflies, and they are serial nappers in the sun.  They can be rather rambunctious in groups, often chasing each other or tumbling and roughhousing together.  However, Flower Dragons are also very loyal to whoever they have imprinted upon - in the case of human companionship, this means that they rarely leave their companion's side, choosing instead to cling to their clothing or follow close to their heels anywhere they go.  They tend to be very active, especially during the day, and they are eager to engage with any and all activities that are presented to them.  Although they are very connected with nature, they thrive in any environment, and do not necessarily need the care of someone with a green thumb in order to flourish.  They are very forgiving creatures with huge hearts, and their love, once earned, is never lost.

They are rather animalistic in nature, but they are capable of understanding telepathic language.  They may show confusion when spoken to aloud.  When they communicate, it is primarily through feelings and images, and the occasional word they might have picked up from being around their keeper.  Much of what they know to be a magical partner or familiar is already learned, but they will benefit greatly from things being explained or taught to them, especially at the beginning of a companionship.  They are intelligent enough to provide or revoke consent, and to understand what sort of situation they are entering when they choose companionship.

Flower Dragons are social creatures, but their talkativeness depends on the individual - some are more shy, while others are excitable chatterboxes.  Regardless, they tend to be very loyal to the person they have imprinted upon - they are unlikely to ever betray that person or do anything that would cause intentional harm.  They are helpful and optimistic, and like to provide their support where it is most needed, wherever they are capable of sliding in and providing it.

Manifestations for Flower Dragons are most likely to appear as the scent of their respective flower.   They are likely to crawl or rest on their keeper's body, particularly on their shoulders, in their arms, or in their bags.  Especially after they have taken a nap in a patch of sunlight, they are also likely to appear as spots of warm air.

In Companionship

Flower Dragons are friendly and loving creatures, who tend to form lifelong bonds with their human companions.  They make lovely friends or familiars, and are happy to assist their companion with magical or mundane activities (particularly gardening), just as well as they are glad to spend time with their companion doing just about anything!  They tend to be very easygoing and playful, and they are also rather cuddly.

They adore plants and plantlife.  Most of them prefer to have a plant dedicated to them as an offering, with each instance of watering being part of that offering.  The plant does not need to be the same variety as the plant their appearance mimics.  They also love to spend time in nature, whether that is simply relaxing in a garden or taking a walk outdoors.  While they are happy to help provide their energies for any sort of magic, their preference is green or herbal magic, and they would even be happy to help their magical companion do anything along the lines of blending teas or spices for everyday use, or even foraging for plants that will be used in the kitchen.  They are easy to please, and their baseline for happiness is simply being with their companion - it is rare that they'll leave their companion's side unless ordered to, and they will often seek out their companion for protection or assistance if they get themselves into a tight spot.

Please keep in mind that Flower Dragons do not respond well to rehomes, and if their companion chooses to sever their binding, that dragon may never choose to form a bond again.  A Flower Dragon is a large commitment - and even if their companion does not have the time or energy to speak to them at any given moment, they are happiest when allowed to be alongside their person regardless!

Overall, Flower Dragons are sweet, loyal, and uplifting companions who are the perfect partner for a beginner witch or spirit keeper, particularly anyone who is interested in green magic or gardening.
